Breaking up clay

A hydraulic pounding device is set up beside the river for bashing the porcelain clay into powder. Followed by the processes of washing, purifying and precipitating, the refined clay is the fashioned into lumps or small blocks.

The painting showing the production of teaware was painted in 19th century. Now it is kept at the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
