St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, Ireland

UK & Ireland x OC RR, Group 241, from chrissybaby

I received the second card from Ireland, for another group of UK& Ireland RR. This time it is St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin. Originally founded in 1190 the cathedral was extensively rebuilt towards the end of the 14th century, after the destructive fire. Following the wars of the 17th century the building fell into a ruinous state until about 1860 when a complete restoration was carried out through the generosity of Sir Benjamin Guinness, a member of the famous brewery family. The little park beside the cathedral was also provided by this family. Jonathan Swift was dean of St' Patrick's from 1713 to 1745 and is buried in the cathedral.
