Just Viewcards RR, Group 72, from Alcott1
Yesterday I received 5 (!) postcards. :)
This one came from Mary Ellen, from the USA. It shows Cahokia Mounds, Collinsville, Illinois. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. What is written on the back?
Monks Mound viewed from the east (winter)
Monks Mound, the largest prehistoric earthwok in the New World, covers over 14 acres and rises in four terraces to a height of 100 feet. It was built in stages over 300 years (AD 900-1200) by Mississippian Indians to elevate their most important ceremonial building? and probably the residence of the leader. It was named for European monks who planted gardens on it in early 1800's.
